Rotor Cap 2003 Silverado

Hi Ho.

I got two Silverado's here at work (under 60,000 Km).

So far we have replaced the rotor caps nine times between the both of the trucks.

Has anyone heard of this or if ther is a recall comming up.

Thanks.

Re: Rotor Cap 2003 Silverado

So for what reason do they need to be replaced? If it due to carbon tracks thats one thing and burned contacts is another.

Trust me they do have a rotor and a cap. After replacing them 9 times I'm quite sure they have them.

The rotor and cap is getting wet (some how) the dealer tells us that there in a fix for it in the 2005, which is little good for my 2003.

I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this type of problem and if anyone has heard of a fix coming down.

Once they rotor starts to go the truck will not start.

One of the trucks had the rotor cap replaced twice in a week.

Neither truck has AC, we have another chey 1500 4x4 with AC, the rotor cap on that one failed 3 times. The fix for it was to put foam padding on the AC lines and that stopped the condensation from getting into the rotor.

So trust me they do have a rotor and I have replaced them 9 time on two of our trucks, counting the 4x4 it is 12.

On a side note I don’t think that we will ever get another chev pick up in our company fleet.

Later

GM did away with the distribitor about 1999 or 2000 on the trucks and replaced it with coil over plug for each cylinder.

Sorry Dude your wrong, trust me on this we have two Silverados and they both have rotor's in them.

In fact they just put one on that has a small hose coming out of it, this is there attempt to stop the condensation.

Yep - right on the money. It is sort of surprising, as even many economy cars have single coil packs per plug anymore.

My father's 2002 GMC with an 8.1L has coil over plug ignition. So does my neighbor's 2003 Avalanche has coil over plug ignition.I have looked under the hood on both.Advantage with a coil over plug ignition is easier to diagnose and cleaner under the hood, with no "mess" of plug wires.

Re: Rotor Cap 2003 Silverado

Alright, I think I may have figured out our problem here. How many of you with 99 and up silverados that have distributors are Canadian? I'm thinking that may be one of the little differences between Canadian Silverados and American ones.

If your in the USA you will get the recall after some one dies. there is a few recalls that are only on trucks in canada. thay cover my year truck but in the usa thay say there is not one single recall. funny thing is i am haveing all the same problems that the trucks in canada are having.
