NO power at all 91 Honda Civic, please any help appreciated

Hi, I have a 91 Honda Civic that yesterday I just changed the alternator in. When connecting the battery back to it, the POS terminal broke. Bought a cable from Wal-Mart and the battery broke on me, so I replaced it with a new battery. However now, the car does not get any power what so ever. I can't even get a beep when the door is open or even an inside light. I rehooked the stock POS cable back up and at least tried just touching the battery with it because I would at least get some kind of power to the inside even when it was not connected just touching, but now even with that cable no power is getting through. We tried jumping it, by passing the battery but still no power. All the cables are hooked up the same way there were disconnected. Is it possible the alternator could somehow not be letting any power through? I don't see how it could since I'd still be getting an inside light at the least.
On this model of the car the POS terminal has an extra cable running from it to the fuse box under the hood on the passenger side. I checked the ones I could and they looked fine, except the only one I couldn't check is the 'main fuse' which is covered and have to look to get into considering my car is outside in their parking lot and the cold temperture make working harsh. But I asked someone there and they said that the cable running to that box shouldn't matter for getting some juice.
So I am out of options and I can't find any article online that has a similar problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Going to try to go down today since it's 26 miles away but it's hard to even get a ride and no public transportation goes that way. : / Thanks

You may have blown that main fuse. If you accidentally touched the wire leading to it to bare metal it could've messed it up. This just happened to somebody here not long ago. Anyway, here's a link to the manual.

Navigate to the electrical section and you'll find all the info you need.

Ah that diagram sort of helps. I did not know that second wire to the fuse box was from the alternator because I did touch the cable directly that was from the alternator, I didn't hear anything happen though but a fuse can do that. So it is possible that if the main fuse is replaced that the car should at least get 'some' power? I'm really hanging on by a thread here as this is a difficult situation for me. I do appreciate your time and information. Going to scour over the site. Any more info would grealty be appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like a fuse to me. Also, make sure you check both the starter and alternator fuses under the dash.
under the hood, make sure the main battery fuse is good as well as the ecu fuse.

Alright the fuses I'm going to check out, I just hope they have them in stock. I called the Honda Dealership about them and they said there's only two big fuses in there, a 60 and a 50. Also the fuses under the dash? I'll check them too. Appreciate the help guys, as this is my only hope. Can't get to work or my car and everyone else is on a busy schedule. If it wasn't 10 degrees outside I'd bike the 26 miles but heh. Anyhow I'll look further into it, thanks a lot and any other info would be appreciated!

might want to check your grounds. i just fryed the altinator in my accord last week. It got to hot or something and it burned the insulation back on the wire and it grounded out and cooked it. Check your altinator plug and wire.

Hey all thanks for all your help. It was indeed the 'main fuse' which according to the Honda Dealership 'doesn't exist' even though it says in big black letters 'MAIN FUSE' right on the fuse box. As I found out from someone at Advance Auto Parts is that the term main fuse is used for the fuse with the highest amps, which in this case was the battery fuse at 60 amps. Maybe should hire him at the dealership? Anyhow car is running now but is still making a whinning noise that sounds just like an alternator would when it's about to die. I posted a new thread so it's easier to see. Thanks again all for your help, at least it won't get towed now :-D

no prob bro...
btw...it's not necessary to go tothe dealership for the fuses. You can buy them at any local parts store.
