Re: y pipe

I own a muffler shop and what we do with those is:

the stock y-pipe has both legs coming down made of 2 1/4" pipe that y's into the 3 " section.

cut the y-pipe just behind where the 2 crossovers join up. you will see that where the hole is cut, for the 1 leg to tie in, it is not large enough, blocking more than 1/2 the diameter of the pipe.

using a torch or plasma cutter, open that up to the max.

It works very well and alot cheaper than replacing the y-pipe.

No point going any larger on the crossovers (unless going to headers) as the manifold only has a 2 1/4" opening.

Re: y pipe

Edelbrock has the least expensive shorty header/Y pipe combinations that are 50-state smog legal. The ceramic or titanium coatings also reduce underhood temps and help preserve belts, hoses and electronics. Figure around $350 street price for a bolt on kit.
