Some general questions
Hi,
I am new here and this is my first post. I'm looking for some rather basic information. This is probably going to be long, so bear with me here. First of all, I'm driving a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I bought it from a dealer auction a year and a half ago because my Camry was on its LAST legs. I don't claim to know anything about racing stats or times. I never really cared one way or the other. I was merely a 21 year old college student trying to survive. Not a racer. Now, I had driven that Camry for years and only encountered one "street race" and that was just with a friend with whom there was no real competition. I think we just wanted an excuse to go fast. I had no clue exactly how street races started, what was the point, etc, but suddenly I had teenagers stopping me in gas stations, fast food joints, etc, wanting to know if I'd like to race. I never did. I got stopped by some stock Civics and Sunfires and that sort of thing, but they all wanted to race on crowded city streets at peak times. No thanks. Now a few months prior to all of this, a friend of mine had been given a 2002 Mustang--3.8, purely stock, and automatic, but my goodness if it wasn't a beautiful machine. He bragged on it constantly in the beginning and I can't say I blamed him. Like I said, impressive car, there's just so many of them. Then things turned personal. I did not begin all of this but I am bound and determined to finish it. When I purchased the car I drove straight to his house. He'd just gotten the Mustang and we'd both driven pretty crappy cars before that so I assumed he'd be happy for me now that we both had a decent ride. He was happy for me--to a point. I never meant to start up conflict, but when I got out of the car another of our friends was standing there and, slapping our Mustang-owning buddy on the back, said, "Well, looks like you held the title for a least a little while, bro" and laughed. A couple of months go by and more and more people start pitting our cars against one another. My Mustang-sporting friend who had initially kept his cool, began to drop comments here and there concerning how my car would not be able to keep up with him. It turned to private discussions. A lot of time has gone by and this can't go on any longer. There is NOWHERE and I mean nowhere for us to race where we live. So basically, now that you know the story, does anyone know a website where I could find racing stats for a Mustang vs. a GTP? I'm hella curious. I know this race has to have been raced before. I don't know who would win, but the pressure has gotten entirely too intense. Sorry for such a long post you guys and I'd appreciate unmodified personal stats on these cars as well. Thanks. well since he has a v6 stang thats a 3.8, he should be a 15 second car if its a 5 speed. if its a 3.8 stang, then those are 17 second cars.
you have a gtp, you have waaaay more potential right off the bat then he does. your car is also faster then his in stock trim ( only by alittle ), you get a intake, a chip, header, exhuast and a pulley and you'll be running with mach1's, and your friend with the v6 stang would need a supercharger kit to keep up/ beat you. there is a guy here name jeffsgtpsleeper who run's 12's and he destroyed a 400hp bmw m5 from a stop and from a roll. so you should be able to do the same too if you do similar mods.

Re: Some general questions
Dude, you would wipe his ass all over the street...those supercharged GTPs are quick...those auto 3.8 stangs are low 16 second cars on the best day...your car is a low 15 second car on an average day.

You should be able to beat the mustang easily. I know a guy here in Mobile that has a GTP.. they're pretty quick cars.

anyway, yeah Acidreiyne your car is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much faster. I run 15.3 at best and I know the GTP will wipe the floor with me, on the other hand I dont even bother with V6 stangs cause they are just too slow in stock or BPU trim. you cant race him? gimme a break bro, you got streets where you live? you got traffic lights? go out at 11:00 or 12:00 p.m. when traffic is dead and run him! its that simple, and get over the whole "what if cops catch me" crap. Cops are not invisible and they are not mind readers, if you dont see em around then guess what..........THEY'RE NOT AROUND! or you could tell your friend there to join this forum and we will be more then happy to make him cry cause he is so missinformed! Actually the real idiot is the guy who said "well looks like you held the title for a little while" WHAT TITLE? biggest newbie? my little sister could tell you those cars are slow. Disclaimer: there is nothing wrong with driving a V6 Mustang! different cars for different people. there is however a big problem when you act like big shit without any means of backing it up. know your place and know who you can mess with and who you should respect.

Re: Some general questions
GTP. Hands down. A guy around here embarassed himself in his new Civic hatchback about a week ago. He pulled up to a stoplight and revved against and GTP because he didn't see that's what it was. Less than 20 secs later the guy slowed down, laughed at him, and then left. The hatchback is running mid-15's w/some mods (Don't know what) and the GTP was stock. I say race him. Good chance the cops will only catch the slowest one.

Re: Some general questions
yes you will destroy him. V6 mustangs are slow as poop on a cold day (no idea what that means, just sounds fun). And when you race, you dont need to go all fast and furious to over 100 MPH. I guarantee by 70 MPH you will have atleast 2-3 car lengths on him. At that point you can declare a nice and easy victory.

Re: Some general questions
Smart money is on you, but everyones already said that. Go race, and come back and tell us about it. I personally like goin up agasint the older V6s because most of the owners (not all of them) think they're hot shit, and its fun shutin them up in a 'sports sedan'.

Seriously, a stock I4 Tiburon can run with them. You'll slaughter him.

Re: Some general questions
You're right. It's time to hush my buddy up. He's a sore loser at everything and especially with me. I mentioned to him that we needed to go out and "handle this" but he didn't seem too enthusiastic about it. As a matter of fact, he said it was probably a bad idea since my car is older than his and might develop some engine trouble or something as a result of racing it. I should have known.
But, he'll put his money where his mouth is in front of other people. No backing down. I'm going out of town soon but when I get back, one way or another, I'll have my race and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all of your help. AcidReiyne |

Re: Some general questions
Oh, by the way, thought some people might get a kick out of this, I did. I had somebody tell me recently since all of this has hit the fan that, if I race him and win and want to pour salt in the wound, to tell him that GTP stands for "get that pony" lol

Re: Some general questions
V6 mustangs are in no way shape or form fast. When I had a stock civic, I'd give V6s a hell of a run for their money. If it was a GT...you'd be getting owned...but yeah, you'll take him.

Re: Some general questions
First off...i'd take your 98 GTP ANY DAY OF THE MOF*CKIN WEEK........
Any mustang with a 6 IS a bitch car-period. Lol, tell that dude that, tell em "i see lot's of fat blondes driving those lately". Seriously, it's a girl car. Unless of coarse you do some major sh*t to it....even then, a mustang NEEDS a V8. I'd take a V8 stang over a supercharged V6 stang...know what i mean...even if the V8 was slower.
