Angry Heater core, 96 Ranger

I am in the process of replacing the heater core on my '96 Ranger and it is quite a chore. I'm no mechanic, so some that read this may know of easier methods, but I am working from a Haynes manual and though it's pretty good, it could explain things a little better. This is what I've done.
Remove all plastic panels in & around dash, lower steering column so it hangs (you don't have to remove steering wheel - but protect wiring), unbolt dash & pull away from fire wall (5ea. main dash bolts on my vehicle). From engine compartment, remove nuts securing plastic blower assembly (4ea), then nuts securing heater plenum from engine compartment side of firewall (4ea. - one is right behind engine accessible from underneath). Note there are also nuts under the plastic blower assembly on the same studs that secured it to firewall, and one hidden behind plastic blower assembly to left of heater core (don't remove plastic blower assembly to get to hidden nut, just pull it out a little to get room). Remove nut under passenger side of dash (inside passenger compartment) and then you'll have access to screws (5ea) @ top of Plenum to remove heater core. Good luck, hope this helps.

Re: 96 Ranger Heater Core Help

Dear Ramyflag, Your instructions to replace the heater core were very accurate! Mine is the 95 4 cyl.-I think the first year of the difficult-to-replace heater core. After realizing how pathetic the Haynes Manual instructions are for heater core replacement, I went to searching and found your thread. Took me just over 4 hrs to complete the job. Not really that difficult- with the right instructions! Many thanks for your careful input for this subject. Maybe you should start a repair manual co. and give haynes a run for their money!
