1999 Sunroof Problem
hey, i'm sorry if this has been answered, but i just bought a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT and my sunroof won't close all the way, i mean it took forever for it to open and then when it closes, it comes all the way to a stop, but won't come back down, to make the roof level.....
could this be from the cold? my windows were frozen and my sunroof wouldn't open, so i let my car warm up a bit, and then my windows eventually thawed out enough to open up and close but how can I fix my sunroof? or is it not broken and just possibly frozen "open"?? thanks for the help

Re: 1999 Sunroof Problem
unless it is caught on something I would say it is a bad motor. When the window motor on my 1986 chevy truck quit it rolled up really slowly and then never back down. I'm sure those are a pain to replace. If that is your problem.

yeah, I thought that too, but my windows all work(the driver's side wouldn't work for some reason, but i just kept at it, and it suddenly started to work again)
the sunroof motor can't be broke or burnt our or anything, because it will go all the way back, but when i go to close it, it comes all the way to the point where it stops and starts to come down, but stops before it gets fully closed, it leaves like half an inch to an inch of space that is bringing in air. is there anyway to fix that? I was thinking about just taking the sunroof off, pushing the "bars" or "holders" or whatever they are, down until they are all the way down, then putting the sunroof back on, but i'm not sure, because i just got the car and don't want to mess it up already, lol. |

Have the suhnroof checked, I used to sell Pontiacs, that roof is designed to open to a certian point and stop, then if you hit the switch again it will open the rest of the way. The same is true for closing, it is supposed to close to about 2 inches, hit the switch again and it is to close the rest of the way, this was designed like this so you could open the window to vent the air or open it all of the way.
If the window is stopping with a little bit open that's normal but if the window is not closing when you hit the switch again that's not right . Get it checked there has to be some type of micro-switch on the roof that tells it when to stop that switch may be going. I hope this helps! |
