Question Any experience with superchargers for 6.0 or 8.1 liter engines?

Hi,
I am considering adding a blower to improve my towing performance for a heavy trailer.
Please post any recommendation or experience.
Thank you, Eggert

We bought out 2000 Yukon XL about 18 months ago. It had been the tow vehicle for show cars from a local dealership. It has a 6.0L Auto and came with a Wipple Supercharger, JBA exhaust and a high flow Cat. Torque if flat from 2000 and you can really tell it when you mash it getting onto the freeway. We're normally use to being pushed into our seat by the acceleration in 1st gear which drops off as the speed increases. This puppy pushes you back and keeps you there, 0-20, 0-70 feels the same.
If you keep your foot out of it, the mileage is pretty good. On a recent trip from Sacramento to Redding, CA a trip of around 300 miles each way we got auound 20 MPG at 65, on cruse control, on flat terrain. Not bad for a tank, and with the Kat Skins seat covers it was a nice ride.
Now the bad news, the Wipple ran around $4000 in 2000, the exhaust a bunch more, at 50K Mi the exhaust manifold cracked because of the heat below the SC, I'm in the process of fixing that and adding ventilation on the right side of the engine. It's not for an older engine or one that's not in great shape, and don't forget about the rest of the drive line, when you add 50% more HP and Torque you can twist things in a hurry.
Have fun

Re: Any experience with superchargers for 6.0 or 8.1 liter engines?

Thanks, 94.
I am debating switching mine for the 8.1 liter engine.
As far as I can tell, the tranny (4L80-E) and drivetrain are the same on the 3/4 tons, whether it has the 6.0 or the 8.1 engine.
I am getting 10 mpg city, 14 mpg highway.
A lot less when towing, about 7.5.
How noisy is the charger?
I had a large magnaflow and a K+N and took them both out because of the noise.
Take care, Eggert
