Question isuzu tod transmission

i have a 2001 isuzu trooper with TOD 4wd tranny.
the tod will not engage-all i get is a check light
below the tod indicator panel.
the low range is working fine when i use the shift
lever.
took it to dealership and all they could tell me was-
you have an electrical problem!
any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
also where is the TOD electronic control box located
in the vehicle?
thanks much! cartech57

First you have a TOD transfer case not transmission. I really doubt your TOD computer is bad unless you spilled something on it. It is under the front passenger seat towards the front.

If you get 4wd low then likely your SOTF unit is good. The other typical problem source are the speed sensors. No way of knowing for sure without the TOD codes.

I had the same thing happen to ours (1999) and changed the transfer case fluid a couple of times, and also the tranny fluid, and the problem went away. Now I drain the tranny pan & refill with new fluid every oil change. Change the transfer case fluid every other oil change. Have rigged up a hose with adapter that makes the job easy.
