02 Nissan Altima Headlight bulb

Do I need to take the bumper off to change the headlight bulb? The dealer wants 160.00 to do something I expected to be rather easy. Please help. While I don't have 160.00 for the dealer, I do have the 7 dollar bulb from the auto parts store.

i think that all you have to do is slide the headlight assy out. i think that there are 2 pins that pull upwards on your model year.

Sorry, but you WILL have to remove the bumper on an '02 Altima to replace the headlight bulb, as it is the only way to remove the entire headlight assembly. The bulb is a tiny thing that is retained by a spring clip, and the whole assembly must be removed to gain access. I had this done once, and after 3 months, the bulb is burned out again. This time the dealer says the bulb melted the headlight assembly and want to charge me $411. I have a call into Nissan Consumer Affairs. Meanwhile, I've ordered the Altima Service manual on CD (available on ebay) and will let you know how grim the job is.
