Question 91 Dodge Shifting In Morning

My 91 Ram 4x4 Shifts Fine Like There Is No Problem. The Only Thing That Is Bothering Me Is In The Morning. First Thing In The Morning, It Stays In One Gear For To Long. However, Once I Shift All The Way Thru The Gears, It Stops Doing It Untill The Next Morning. I Replaced The Filter And Fluid About A Month Ago So Im Not Worried About That. But What Could Be The Problem?

Where do you live? I know it's cold where I live, and transmissions will hold gears for longer when it's deadly cold outside...

Re: 91 Dodge Shifting In Morning

Yeah, I live in Maryland and it has been pretty cold here. So im sure that is what it is. Still, i hate hearing the truck rev that loud and long in any given gear, is there anything I can do to help with this problem?

Re: 91 Dodge Shifting In Morning

1991, so you've got the 727 or 904, right? Mine always did the same when it was cold, never hurt it. Get up to about 10-15 mph (or a little higher) and let off the gas and let it shift. If it won't shift, add a few mph and try again. Eventually you'll get the speed that will let it go into the next gear; you can do the same for the 2-3 shift also. If you stay on the gas, it WILL be in the lower gear quite a bit longer than usual until it warms up.

Whups, thanks 2000 for straightening me out on the trans; I forgot about the bolt-on OD unit; they start in '91?

Re: 91 Dodge Shifting In Morning

dodge has problem with a over cut seal groove when the seals get old and hard they shrink which causes a delyed shift. I think it is 2nd to 3rd shift.
