Power steering leak

2001 Monte Carlo SS. Anyone had a power steering leak? I have not had a chance to get under it to look for the leak but I’m having to add fluid every week. Has there been troubles with the pump or hoses on these cars? How hard is it to remove the pump? Thanks

I just did my power steering pump lol...mine was the pump seal went bad, it isnt hard to do the pump, i have a guide if u are looking to do that..you have to obviously take the belt of 2 bolts fitttings etc, also it helps to take the steerign rack linkage to the passenger side wheel off to slide the pump out easier..let me know, it seems as if my pump was replaced 1 time before in this car...sound sliek a common problem

Thanks for the reply. I have not had a chance to look for the leak yet. Just keep adding fluid every week. Where did you get your replacement pump? Did you go to the dealer or parts store?

Update on the power steering leak problem. Son took the car to a dealer and they said the rack & pinion needs replaced at $950.00 charge. Another mechanic gave me a $700.00 estimate (including front end alignment). Anyone replaced their own rack? I did one on an 85 Celebrity and it took me 8 hours.
The second mechanic said the rack must be something special because both his suppliers would have to order it. Any one know about this? Auto Zone has them for $200.00. Maybe they are rebuilt units and the mechanic is getting a new one.
