1998 - no gears, I was driving the vehical, went

from forward to reverse then forward again (three point turn) when I put the car in forward it would not respond. No noise or other problems detected. Tried reverse - car rolled backward like it was not in gear. RPMs go up but no movement. could not get shift lever into park position. can put shift lever in any gear location (R, D, D1, D2) lever will stay but not engage transmission.

sounds like the shifter control cable has become loose, have you looked at the trans mission? where the cable/ linkage attach's? does'nt sound like the tranny went south, pretty sure it may be just the linkage.
all else fails, a reputable tranny shop visit might be in order
