Speaker upgrade Question???

I'm new here. I've been reading all your posts and you guys seem to know your stuff. Anyways my question is regarding a speaker upgrade I'm planning to do. I'm not a stereo genius that's why I have come for your help. Don't worry I have read the million of posts on how to remove the rear deck. I have already purchased my upgrade speakers. I plan on replacing the stock speakers with:

1. pair of Clarion 4" X 6" SRC-4684--for the front deck
2. pair of Infinity Kappa 652.3i--for the rear deck

Now my question is regarding the sound quality. Do you think I can have a clear sound running those speakers on the stock amp and deck? Or is it advisible to start looking for a new amp and deck? I'm sorta low on cash and hope that a simple speaker replacement will do. Any opinions or suggestions???

for sound quality, there's no doubt that a new deck and new amps will sound clearer. the higher the RMS watts, the cleaner and crisper the sound. However the factory system on the G20 really isn't that bad (some of you will say otherwise). If you did replace the speakers, it would sound fine, but don't expect to see a huge jump in sound quality by just changing the speakers. If you are low on money, just get a head unit first. and when you make more money, then you can get the amps.

I agree! The stock head unit(Panasonic) sounds satisfying to me for now.
I was debating if I should touch them now or just leave it as is. The sounds is really not too bad, even the base. It sounds like I have a subwoofer installed in the trunk sometimes. I was thinking to take it easy on my listening habit now because my left ear is kind of weak and sensitive to highs. But who knows? Summer is coming??? Ahhhhh!

Good Luck!

Thanks alot for your help. I have one more quick question. I feel so ignorant by asking this. What kinda of problems can I look for when my speakers are 4 ohms and the stock amps are 2 ohms? Should I be careful pumping the volume or should I go ahead and remove the amps because of the inconsistency?

well, what's the RMS wattage that the new speakers can handle? If you want to remove the stock amps, your in for a full days work. to remove the stock amps, you have to run ALL NEW SPEAKER WIRE from the speakers, directly to the head unit. Also, if you want to remove the stock amps, you have to also get a new head unit, because the way your system works now, is that your stock head unit sends out an un amplified signal to the stock amps, which then amplifies the signal and sends it to the speaker. if you get rid of the stock amp, but keep the stock head also, you will be sending an un amplified signal directly to the speakers. thats why I said to get a new head unit first along with the new speakers, so while you are swapping out the speakers, you can also run new wire to the head unit.

I agree with Swonder67..., but he shouldn't be here because he has a 97 Civic (just kidding Sw Anyway, yeah Swonder67 is right! When you are in low budget or can't afford everything at once, head unit is the first thing you should have vs. the factory installed head unit. Or, if you think the head unit is good for now, then a good quality speakers is good to install. I just put together some of my stuff two days ago, but only temporarily. I installed the head unit and the CD changer. It sounds good and I have more options to tweek the treble, because the factory OEM HU doesn't allow me to adjust more of the treble and it's all the way in the max already. The base seems stronger and thighter and it sounds like it has more power and louder. I could only put the volume below the middle of the strength meter because I'm afraid to blow my speakers. I'm not sure if I have the original factory installed stereo system because the head unit that was in the car was Panasonic and the speakers are Clarion??? Shouldn't we have G20's a Bose system??? I don't know?
