Question 5 Series Handbrake Adjustment

Recently acquired a 1996 528 and had all the brakes re-done, including the rear shoes for the handbrake.

Should the adjustment of these brake shoes be “automatic” or do they need adjusting “manually” in which case how do I proceed ???

If they should adjust “automatically” ---- they are not doing ---- what should I check ???

Thanks for any feedback

Ok the hand brake dose not set by it self what you have to do is remove one lug nut from each rear wheel and turn the wheel till you see a sproket through the wheel bolt hole. take a long screw driver and keep turning the sproket till you cant move the wheel freely. then tune the sproket back 12 turns repeat this with both sides and your hand brake should work great.. with your hand break it should catch after 3 clicks and be fully on after 7 (note: Vehicle should be jacked up to be abule to turn the wheel freely)
