Front Transfere Case Leaking '86 S-10 Blazer

Hello and this is my first post on this forum and probably not my last,

I just purchased a 1986 S-10 Blazer, Tahoe ed. and now I have a front differential leak and some noticeable oil leaking from the transfere case.

My question is how hard is this to repair myself, and can someone give me some information on how to go about this myself?

I also have a heater problem but I think its a switch issue, because when I hit a bump in the road and the switch is in the high position, the fan comes on, but the switch won't work in any other position, and when I switch it from High to a lower speed and then back to High the fan fails to come on. Any other suggestions on this one?

Congrat's on your purchase. I hope that it treats you well.

About the switch first, check the wires attached to the switch first. On my 85 they aren't too bad to get to. Use a test light or multi-meter to test the circuits from there.

With the leaks, can you tell us where they are cming from (back, front, ect)

On my '83 2.8v6 4wd blazer tahoe a leak developed where the actuator cable enters front diff. it's the triangular shaped 3 bolt thing. i disconnected pin in other end of cable at diaphram so i could carefully remove 3 bolts at diff and pull that out about an inch. i then rubbed in there around the cable end shaft and oil seal a seal revitilizer. clean both triangular sufraces dry and apply self curing sealant around and inside bolt holes. rebolt. reconnect actuator cable at vac diaphram. i also added that thick engine seal revitilizer to diff. no leak from there since.

when my heater fan acted up it turned out to be a bad ground since motor is screwed to fiberglass housing it has wire from one of those screws attached to other body screw for motor ground. this was corroded. cleaning it up fixed it. also, where the four wire harness attaches to housing, there may be a resistere module also removable needing replacement, i would guess that the case only if lower speeds no work since i think highest speed has no resistance to lower voltage and motor speed. or the motor may be wearing out. some spin one way and some the other, so watch you get right one.
