custom air filter

I was just wondering if anyone has any input on using a custom K&N custom air filter on my 95 Aurora. Every since my buddy put it on, my check engine light is always on. He said that its no big deal but my mechanic said that the check engine light is on because by using the custom filter, it messes with the oxygen sensor. Can someone tell me how good or bad this is for my car, because I do like the way my car sounds with the way it is. My friend thinks that it will also help with my gas mileage, but I have yet to see the impact of that yet.

is the IAT sensor plugged in? my opinion would be to take off the custon filter and put the stock air box back in. just put a k&n filter in there and gut that airbox, I bet you would be happy with that.

Our airboxes are actallu designed rather well.

Re: custom air filter

I have a K & N on my 98 and I never had problems with the check engine light. I'm happy with it. Just check the sensor and also make sure that little air bladder is still connected to the hose so that dirty air can't get in. I was using zipties for a while, but it kept working itself off. My dad finally put a metal fitting on to keep it secure.
