warming up a 454

what rpms should i keep my engine at with aluminum heads while warming it up. I try to stay around 1000-1200 but i accidently hit 1900 the other day and was wondering if that could have screwed something up like blowing a head gasket doing that?

thanx

Re: warming up a 454

why are you warming the car up at 1000 RPM's.....?

Starting u a cold engine and reving up is the absolute worst thing you can do.

Let it idle for a few minutes untill you get some heat comming out of the heater, then rev it up some.

Re: warming up a 454

Technically once the oil pressure is up and all the warning lights are off we can begin driving moderatly, not haulin. I have an aluminum Northstar in an 96 Eldo and it may run 20-30 seconds after start before driving is begun. It has 90,000 miles on it and a tiny little amount of coolant seepage at the head/block surfaces is nothing at all for its lifetime. Certainly 1,900 RPM is not over revving it. Punching out 4 grand as soon as it catches in the morning is.

Re: warming up a 454

1900 won't hurt it at all. (Unless there is already something wrong with it).

I just start mine and let it idle till it's warmed up or until I am ready to go.

agreed, once oil has circulated throughout the engine it is really to drive and more warming up than that is just a waist of gas. The engine will warm up faster if it is driven anyway.

Even if you did rev the shit out of a cold engine a blown head gasket wouldn't be the result
