Hemi in Prelude?
Sorry this might be dumb but, I know this guy with an early - late 90's prelude with AWS, v-tec. He says it's a 2.3 Liter, but I thought they were 2.2 Liters, but I dunno. He also said that the "H" in H22 engine means Hemispherical like the old dodge hemis! So what the hell is going on is he telling me the truth. He says a mechanic told him all of this.
1) 2.3 Liter? 2) Hemi engine in prelude, hence the H22, and if not what does the H means specifically so I can tell him. Thanks alot guys... Editing this... if anyone knows, what makes the old hemis a "hemi"??... and if any handy sources of answers would be appreciated...thanks |

Re: Hemi in Prelude?
hemi is short for hemispherical, which is the shape of the cylinder head on hemi engines
and whoever told you that H in H22 or H23 stands for hemi deserves a medal for even getting you to think it was true. haha. H is just the label honda chose for that engine line. just like the B series. you now, the B16's, B18's, etc. honda also has D, F and K. there was a 2.3L engine, known as the H23. and it was non-vtec. |

Re: Hemi in Prelude?
it doesnt stand for anything its just a letter for referencing wat engine ur talking about or dealing with. there are a ton of 2.2L engines out there so this is a way of keeping track of which one it is.

On topic... Dude stock Honda Preludes put out at the most 220 hp, so how are you gonna talk shit about a Dodge hemi? True the hemi design is old school considering the design efficiency of modern engines (Chevy's TPI is just as good and they were using it in the early 80's), but an engine with a hemi head will put out more horses than the same engine without the hemi head. |

Re: Hemi in Prelude?
The H is only a letter designation for the particular family of engines; all H series Honda engines have dual overhead cams and are sleeved with FRM material.
The HEMI is 50 year old technology that is still (embarassingly) marketed by Dodge today. It just means the top part of your combustion chamber is shaped like half a sphere (hemispherical). It used to be significant because Ford's flathead used to be a very popular engine. People who say today's HEMI's aren't true HEMI's because they aren't perfectly hemispherical; well, it's really just semantics. The H22A's head forms a triangular shape, which is significantly more effiecient. The HEMI was good in its day, but it's a technological advance that has long since been surpassed.

Re: Hemi in Prelude?
Dodge mainly brought back the Hemi name as a selling point. I believe there are other engines that used the same design after Dodge did it. But yes, that technology is pretty much outdatted.
I don't think the head design is the same. I'm sure Honda used different head designs for VTEC and non-VTEC heads.

hemi is to dodge as VTEC is to honda. take that as you may. but neither are god's gift to engines as some people believe. |

Re: Hemi in Prelude?
ha ha of coarse your car is faster.....its a truck its geared to tow things and haul things, it makes its power where it needs it.
and for the record hemis are incredible. they ruled the strip when muscle cars were king. they ruled nascar when they were allowed to compete, in the super birds. the new "hemi's" are nothing like the old. but they did wonders for dodge buisness just like the old ones did. h is just an engine code, like lt1, ls1, b, a, c, every company uses them, it will say it on your option code, nothing to worry about.
