Oil system cleaners?
Hello,
First off I've got to say that this site is great! I've learned a lot about my 97 Saturn and how it runs, etc. My question is---I'd like to use an oil system cleaner; you know, the kind you use as an additive to the oil while letting the car idle for about 10-15 minutes, draining and installing a new oil filter and oil to complete the job. I've heard a lot about them and how they can extend the life of your engine by cleaning sludge, etc. and boost performance and gas mileage. Anyone have any recommendations on brand names of these types of products? Thanks for any suggestions. Jerry |

Re: Oil system cleaners?
they sell one at autozone that looks like its in a soda can. i used it and then changed my oil and put fresh filter and oil in and ran it again with a 2nd can. it came out gunky again. so i put in new oil and filter and my car ran really really well after that. make sure you get the oil pan REALLY empty afterwards cuz you dont want the gunk balls staying in your oil.

Oil system cleaners
Hi carguy83,
Glad to hear your system cleaner did the job. When I change my oil, it "seems" like I never empty the oil pan completely. How would I be sure that the old oil in the bottom of the pan is completely out? Just by another oil addition and emptying? Thanks, Jerry |

sierrap315,
Thanks for the info! I may run a solution through the engine a couple of times to get it really flushed. Jerry |
