removed catalyst converter

i own a 1995 aurora and to day i had some flowmaster mufflers put on.I also had the muffler shop take off the catalyst converter and the other little box and had him put 2 1/2 inch pipe all the way back to the mufflers. After he was done and i was drivin around i started to wonder if not having a catalyst converter on my car would hurt my engine or anything else. The muffler guy didnt say if it would or not.My car has no o2 sensors on the catalyst so i think it will be fine but not sureIf any one has any info on if it was bad to remove it please let me know.

By the way it sounds so good that it turns everyones head and i get a hard on when ever i hear it.

Re: removed catalyst converter

People turn their heads to see who is making all the noise. Not because they are impressed.
I read your posts on another thread, and it's amazine how few words it has taken you to show just how ignorant (look it up) you are.

it won't hurt the car, but you will (most likely) find it harder to pass emissions testing

Re: removed catalyst converter

Personally, I wouldn't remove anything under the car. Maybe replace it with an upgrade like the mufflers and some nice looking tips. That's all I've done and I'm happy with the sound.

Dyno testing on modern cars with the catalytic converter removed almost always results in little or no performance gain. Your percieved performance gain is more than likely from the increased flow of the mufflers and the added psychological effect of having a car that now sounds like a real hot rod. I love the sound too. However your muffler shop really increased their liability in regards to violating the Clean Air Act although I'm sure there isn't much enforcement in Wyoming (even in the larger cities like Cheyenne). High flow cats are available now for cheap. I'm not judging you, just letting you know. Keep your old system around in case you have to get it inspected or you move to an area that performs visual/ sniffer tests.

I cant believe you actually found a legit shop that would do this for you. They are subject to a $25,000 fine as we speak. I assume your receipt doesnt say they removed your cat ? lol

Either way it wont hurt your car in anyway. And probably gives you a few more horsies.
