transmission or clutch problem? thanks for reading

it only happens when it's cold, like sitting all night when it's maybe 40 degrees or colder outside. you put it in first gear, accelerate, push clutch in to get into 2nd - but rpm stays at 2500! slide in 2nd without problem, accelerate....then thing repeats, third gear etc....

the rpms would go down after a couple of long seconds if you just coasted with clutch pushed in.
obviously, normally it's supposed to drop straight to idle soon as clutch is in.
after engine worm, no problem.
had a tranny with 80k put in 6 months ago, mech claimed clutch was fine.
THE CLUTCH DOESN'T SLIP. never did.

one wonders about supposed clutch life being 60k.. car has 120k, if this is second clutch (no clue if it is)

thanks for posting!

Sounds like the car isn't warmed up and the choke is still on keeping the idle high. It's not the clutch.

thats normal, its the engine running higher rpms to warm itself up..... let your car warm up and you wont have a problem....

my tacoma runs crappy like that until it gets warmed up its a 5 speed. i was told its due to cold weather and the clutch's hydrolics isnt hot enuff to make it feel normal.

Re: transmission or clutch problem? thanks for reading

mine does that kind of, also for example if your rolling up to a red light with the car completely warmed up slowing down form say 40 mph it will idle real high and as soon as you come to a complete stop it drops below 1000
