2000 Silverado loses electric when I try to start
Hi,
This is my first post and I really need help. Here is my problem. I drove my truck home, no problems. 1 hour later went to go, turned key to start ,heard a click and all electrical went out, totally dead. I pulled of the negative cable, apparently something reset because all electrical came back. Turned key to start, click and no jucie anywhere. When there is jucie, it is strong, headlights are bright, horn works. It looks completely normal. I can take the key to ignition with no problem, but hit start and all elecrical is gone. Any suggestions. Thanks! Bill |

Check your fuses.

I checked all the fuses. None bad. Also, when I disconnect the negative for 60 secs and reconnect, all power comes back until I hit the starter.

Chech For Loose Battery Connection Or Battery Corrsion
To Test: Turn On Light Then Try To Start If The Light Go Dim Or Out Then Come Back On After The Key Returns To Off It Could Be Loose At Battery |

what is the voltage at the battery? Take BOTH the terminals off and clean them....and the ground at the frame. Check all positive connections if possible, not real sure how the new trucks are wired couldn't be that much different than my 88 & 96.

If you can get it to Advance Auto or another parts store, they can analyze the battery and charging system for free. I've had several vehicles that would not start due to a weak battery, even though lights, etc worked.

It's Fixed
For anyone who is interested. The problem was a loose positive terminal. I had the battery replaced at AutoZone this summer and the dude must not have tightened the terminal well enough. Very wierd how this problem manifested itself.
Thanks for yall's help. Bill |
