Underdrive pulley

What would an underdrive pulley do for my car if I were to put one on? 2000 2.2 2 door automatic

it has a smaller diam and there for 'underdrives' the accessories. It stops them from robbing as much power from your enging. It also weighs less so requires less power to spin as it has less inertia, something the reduced Diam has something to do with too.

They can have negative effects though!

underpowered elctricals, lights getting brighter as revs rise, not enough juice for 'em at idle. Also your waterpump wont spinn as fast. That explains it's own downside! Ac (if equipped) wont work as good!

Re: Underdrive pulley

hey, thanks for the reply. This is off this subject but i recently just got some new rims. They are 18 X 7.5, would it be better to get bigger brakes (rotors, pads, etc.)

It depends. Brake upgrades aren't cheap.

www.rsmracing.com

if you hate the look of the teeny 10" stock brakes and rear drums behind your nice big wheels then do it!! Also it's a good idea if you intend to modd it for performance. But beware. The larger your wheels and brakes and anything unsprungs the handling can deteriorate and also you will get less power at the wheels. If you increase the diams of these components then you increase their inertia. They will require more effort (hp) to turn! Just a little info!

no it won't but make sure they're up to scratch when you're there.

The hoses. I would upgrade to s/stell braided just because they will last longer but if you upgrade the caliper then I'd change the hoses anyhow

Re: Underdrive pulley

Ah hem.... time to clean up this post..

No one makes an " underdrive pully " for the 2.2 2200 engine...Ligtened yes... Only thing close to an under drive is Cavalier connections " power pullys" Thier crank pully is smaller yes but the alternator is larger to make up for the difference. Reason why the 2.2 non ecotec can't have them is because slowing down the belt would cause loss in the water pump efficency and might lead to overheating problems. On the 2.4 the water pump is on the drive chain and seperate from the belt..

carry on....

Re: Underdrive pulley

www.cavalierconnection.com

If you knew someone with a CNC milling machine you could have one made. I'd like to see a link to this business that you says makes them... the Cavalier connection belt is actually shorten 2 inches.. which isn't too bad to keep the pump moving fluid properly..But i think you just have them confused with a 2.4 or they mislabled it..

i am still skeptical... i want to see some hard evidence before i belive this. Pics of the stock crank pully next to the "underdrive". Or the link..

Re: Underdrive pulley

easy killer what they say on it is that you have to upgrade you cooling before installing. like radiator or fan.
