Antifreeze

I am about to flush my system. I have heard a lot of stuff about both kinds. I heard the orange is very very bad and it is better to switch to green. Is this true? I read a bunch of old stuff on here but didn't get a definite answer. somebbody said the orange is made better now and there are no problems. Is this true? Which is better?

Re: Antifreeze

Stick with the orange Dexcool.

It is made for our engines.

It is perfectly safe as long as you install a new rad cap to stop air from going into the system.

Re: Antifreeze

It is sludging because air is getting into the system through a bad rad cap.

Reverse Flush the whole system including the heater core, replace the rad cap with something that is NOT Ac delco and replace the coolant with fresh dexcool.

Re: Antifreeze

Absolutely, If you're sludged up TAKE THE TRUCK INTO A GARAGE THAT CAN DO A PROPER REVERSE FLUSH. Repalce the cap and you'll be good to go.

Re: Antifreeze

I have a pretty high mechanical ability. I can do a complete backflush and chemical flush, but the problem comes back. I suspected the rad cap and replaced it with an ac delco. I didn't know that there was anything wrong with them. Are they defective? What's wrong with them?

Re: Antifreeze

From what I'm reading, they allow air into the system. For the $5.00 it costs for a Stant cap, it's worth it.

The detergents in the dex-cool are not compatable with tyhe green ethylene glycol, and if mixed together they sludge up causing numerous problems.

The AC Delco caps have a seal that is fibrous and hardens fast and does not seal properly.

the stant or any other aftermarket seals REALLY well.

Does you 1994 have green or orange currently?

Re: Antifreeze

If you have green now, stick with the green.
