Stalling At Stop

Ok. Seen this before, yet seems to be no concise answer. My 1998 Aurora, 76,000 miles, stalls out almost daily upon a stop. Is it possible that this is a dirty/gummed up throttle body?

Same problem puzzled me for a while with my 97. Changed a few things like the fuel filter, coolant flush, radiator pressure, throttle body, checked out the fuel pump, and sending unit and finally the 2 crankshaft sensors for about $35.00 each at gm parts wholesale online and installed them and the problem went away. Hope this helps. This is cheaper route to go before replacing bigger parts. Also the problem has not come back for months. Sensors have a tough life with the heat, cold etc.

I am having a similar problem with my 1999 Aurora.. I was told that the cranshaft sensors are on national back order. I went to advanced atuo's website and found this item..GP Sorensen CSS32

Crankshaft Position Sensor
So I went back to my mechanic and told him about finding this part.. he said go ahead and order it.. so I finally got the part in.. he took the car into the garage.. just called me and said it is the wrong part.. this is a camshaft sensor .. so I went back online to verify that it is a crankshaft position sensor as you can see from above.. So can you tell me, you mention you fixed your problem with 2 crankshaft sensors being replaced. Do you happen to have the part number(s) for this sensor? I want to make sure I look for the right thing.. does it make sense that these are on national back order?

If your go to www.rockauto.com and find the listing for your 99 aurora, the cranfshaft position sensor is under the ignition heading.

Hey there I did not mention that it's better to replace the 2 crankshaft sensors with the one camshaft sensor also. Replace all three together. At first the camshaft sensor was replaced by itself when the stalling first started. My mechanic said a faint signal was coming from the camshaft sensor. It was replaced and the problem stopped, then came back a few days later. I then found out about the 2 crankshaft sensors and changed the both. So all 3 sensors were replaced within a months time and the problem has not come back at all since then many months ago. No stalling, no surging, or anything associated with the previous problem. Buy all three, replace with 3 new ones and best wishes. Buy them as cheap as possible and ask about how many months/year they are covered for.

2. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING but GM sensors on! If you can get the GM sensors at Advance, go for it. Typically the "Other brands" do not have the quality in their electronics that the GM electronics have.

I had replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and it still stalled as well. So, the weak signal sounds reasonable - as well. The FPR surely can and does cause a stalling situation with some Aurora engines as some posting here and on other sites have noted.

Was there any other problem associated with your malfunctioning sensors besides the stall at a stop Stealth?

I only use GM PARTS. The sensors were GM PARTS ONLY. No problems since. Funny, today the wheels are in the shop getting the Drivebelt replaced. Just went 1 year and a few days after I had the last one replaced.The other issue when stalling was the SURGING that would come with it. The rpm would kick up on the dashboard then the loud sound would come down. So I would say the surging was the other problem. I also had the fuel pressure regulator issue. I took it to a dealership years ago,(before I knew about this forum) and they only checked out the charging system and could not find the problem. There was no stalling with this issue though. Just leaking fuel around the engine and a long crank when starting the engine before I had the fuel rail replaced. Hope this helps.

Ok, Ordered the three sensors from GM Parts Direct and should have them in the next two weeks. I saw where all three sensors are placed on the engine. The two crankshaft sensors are located just above the oil pressure gauge on the oil filter. These appear to be so, so to replace and the cam sensor is located on the right rear of the engine, that is also the right side of the engine itself as well. The sensor actually faces the right fender. I surely hope that these will do the trick.

Anyone ever replace these on your own? Do they need to be reprogrammed with the computer?

I suspect you are not only stalling at a stop but
it may also stall while driving. It could be as simple
as a bad PVC valve. A simple change for 3 to 4 bucks. It's on the passenger side looks like
a spark plug cover. remove replace and see what happens.

had the same problem on my 95 aurora. i fixed it by cleaning all the grounds and battery teriminals undthe back seat. no problem since doing it.

ok I am having the same problem that everyone is describing. Stalling at stops. so I went ahead and ordered two crankshaft sensors and a camshaft sensor. I will be replaceing them as soon as they arrive. I am no mechanic so aI will have my buddy do it. Now My question is for those of you that have done this successfully:

Where is the position of the camshaft sensor?
&
Where is the position of the crankshaft sensor?

I would really appriciate any responces I can get. I hope everyone has a happy new year comming up as well!
