something besides A4LD?

I have a 89 bronco2 with a 2.9L the transmission went out A4LD and would like to go back with something else automatic or manual 5 speed any Ideas of what would bolt up and the electical issues any information would be apprieciated

Do a quick visual inspection-see what kind of connections you have there. My '87 and '88 Broncos are dead similar in how they connect, even though one is MT and the other AT. That should start you off in the right direction looking for what you need. (In this case, there's One lead for the Neutral Start switch, one for the TC, and the Speedo cable.-Each connector is different, but the same on each model.) That makes replacing them easier, but it doesn't help finding another Unit!

From my experience, it would be easiest to go ahead and have your Unit rebuilt. I got a quote of $700 for rebuilding my AOD, and $1500 to replace it-that's a new unit without the TC) You can try a junkyard Tranny, but you get what you pay for!
