Re: oil advice

You are saying you get a little white water vapour out of your tailpipe?

That is normal especialy in the colder times of the year.

Do you leak oil at all or ever have any blue smoke coming out of your tailpipe?

Re: oil advice

You should be good to go then, but I cannot fully guarantee that no leaks will come about after. More than likely nothing will occur and synthetic nowadays does NOT cause leaks. It will actually clean and re-swell seals and make them seal even better.

Now commence an oil flush routine and use a quality oil filter (NOT FRAM!), and I highly recommend Mobil 1 5w30 for your application.

Re: oil advice

Yes, best to go with Napa Gold. They are made by WIX and are a very good oil filter.

Re: oil advice

Just go to walmart and grab a jug for the oil change, you don't need to buy a case.

Fram is piss poor because their internal construction and filter media is expectionally poor.

I say go with the Mobil 10W30. It will keep better oil pressure when the engine warms up and will help reduce the chances of an oil leak compared to the 5W30. Mobil's 10W30 is designed for higher milage engines and where 10-30 is required(read its description). I am a strong believer of synthetics, as long as the engine is sound(no burning oil, no leaks etc) your good to go.

In Michigan, he will want 5w30 for better oil flow when the temperature gets really low.

You have to understand that oil pressure is the resistance to flow and that is not something you want to do to an older engine, he requires proper flow to get to the top end for vital protection.
