Custom Box
I was hoping someone could give me a website on how to create a box for a 12' sub. I wanted to go with a sealed enclosure. The manufacturer recommends that the box be 3.0 cubic ft. Thanks for any help that you can give.

Re: Custom Box
I can help you out. I have done boxes before. Never a sealed box, but I have done ported which is more complicated. It's not real complicated just get a sheet of MDF(like $20 at Home Depot/Lowes) Then all you need are some inch and a half wood screws, wood glue, and caulking(I like caulking but liquid nail type stuff works too) Just figure out the dementions, cut the wood put some glue and 2 or 3 screws in. If you have any questions or anything I can help you, I also have a 4th generation lude(assuming this will go in that) so I can even help you with demensions and all that jazz.

Re: Custom Box
CocaColaEatsPie, how did you set your subs? Is it just a custom made square box, or did you set the sub or subs to the sides or angle them or anything? Cuz I'm kind of looking to make put my subs on either side so I can still fit a rear strut bar in my trunk.

Re: Custom Box
I have actually never put subs in my lude. The last box I built went in my old isuzu rodeo. I plan on building a box that has my 2 tens facing the rear, but I have some rust on the rear window trim that I have to fix before I put anything in the trunk. You could easily put A box in each corner. To make it look the best you would need to use fiberglass but that is a whole different thing. You could probably make a low enough box that you could still keep the strut bar, or make a box that was kind of like an L so that the middle to back(front of the car) was low and the front(rear of the car) was full height so that you can't tell the strut bar is even there.

Thanks for the help CocaCola. I was also curious if it would be alright to buy a cheap box off of Ebay and reseal everything and add sound-deadening material to the inside? I don't know that I have that much faith in the person that I was going to have cut the box...

Re: Custom Box
I wouldn't really buy one of the ebay prefab boxes. They aren't that great quality and they never fit just right. You can actually bring the demensions to home depot, and pay them to cut it to the right size. It'll probably cost you like $10 to get the wood cut.

Re: Custom Box
Make a card board template first, that way its easier to work your way around the curves and bends, then use the template to cut out the wood to the exact size. CocaColaEatsPie has the right idea though i prefer to use a template as you less likley to make a mistake,.,. good luck!,.,.,.
