help..with warning sigals...driver side door

i have a 2001 golf TDI and the interior lights wont work when my driver door is opened, also the warning signal wont sound when i leave the lights on or when i leave the keys in the ignition.....i was thinking it is a fuse, but the lights work when all the other doors are opened, or maybe the switch which "tells" when my driver side door is open.................can anyone help???

There is a switch that is part of the door latch mechanism, unfortunately it isn't available seperately.
