Have you ever wanted to do so much of something that the laws of the universe prevent you?
If I stopped being a student. If I never worked ever. If I slept 4 hours a night, I wouldn't get to all the ideas for all the kits I want to build. It would be impossible. For every kit I finish, I have probably a dozen ideas. Of these dozen ideas, maybe six go from pipe dream to plan. Of these plans, maybe three go from plans to kits and parts purchases. And these are three more kits to build. Assuming, and its a big assumption, that I build these three models, that still means nine more kits on my shelf. And so it begins. The world of hurt. I hate you, models. I hate you, cars. I hate you, ideas. I hate you, most of all, time, since there isn't enough of you. Oh yeah, and money, too, you suck. I mean, I love you. Come to me in droves.

Re: I hate models!
Welcome to the world of design, and modeling. Now you have an idea of one of the reasons why my hot rod is going so slow.

Re: I hate models!
I know the feeling, but it could be worse. What if you had no imagination to think of new ideas.

Re: I hate models!
i'm experiencing the same thing. I bought a lot of kits each with a custom idea, but I've realized that with school (away at college) I only have time to work on them during summer and winter, so I'll only be able to finish 2-3 models a year if done properly
I'm beginning to think that by the time i get to some of the kits, I would lose the inspiration and ideas for it

I know just how you feel, Will. Try this: WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN
Then lock up your saved ideas for a later date. When you finish with a model, just look in your Secret Modeling Folder and pull out a crazy/cool/inspired project sheet. Then build away, my friend.

Re: I hate models!
I have way more ideas than I'll ever be able to use. Even if I limit myself to only the really, REALLY cool ideas, I'd still have ten times too many (particularly considering my speed of construction.)

Breaks are good guys, I just got done taking a 3 month break, I got to catch up on bills, Go out and meet new people, Unsted of sitting in my model room 24/7. I found that once i took the break it made me love modeling even more.

Hi everybody,
just like wilmo and many others I had the same problem: I am now 41 years old, I build model cars since about 25 years (before I built planes, tanks, etc.) and my collection of unbuilt kits grew over the years up to a pile of 650 + kits. With nearly each of these kits came several ideas how they could be built / displayed. I always had the idea of superdetailing kits and –if it was a race car- I usually bought it twice: to build one closed (to show the shape / design and decals on the car) and to built one as open as possible (to show the technic of the car). Nice idea, but - this meant that I payed f.e. about 60,- Euro for 2 Tamiya kits at the local dealer and - if superdetailing a model, how long does it take? How many models can I finish in one year at all? I have a job, I have a family and I do sports (triathlon). If it works my modelling time is in the evening between 20.30 and 22.00 o´clock. But of course it doesn´t work every day, especially not in summer. If I build my models clean I guess I can finish 5 to 6 models in one year (also depending on the scale). So what about my ideas? With my head full of ideas, years ago I was sitting in front of my models and asked myself: “What will I build next?” It took some time to make a decision, then I started the model just to set it not finished back in the self because I had another idea and couldn´t decide which way to build the model now. Meanwhile things changed: Today I collect my ideas and when I decide to build a model I make a list of the modification and work on this model until it is finished. Maybe in many years I have another idea on this model, maybe I build the same model in another way. 3 years ago I started to sell lots of unbuilt kits in ebay. At the moment I have “only” ( :-) ) 250 kits. I usually work on 2 models (one quicker project and one longer project) at the same time, and I finish the models. Of course I still buy kits, but not –like years ago- at the moment that they are available, I have a list with kits I want to have. If I will buy them is another theme. I think having lots of ideas is great, having problems to realize them is mere stress – but remember: IT IS A HOBBY, SO ENJOY IT AND TRY TO AVOID STRESS !!!!!!! Micha :-)))))) |
