My 2000 LS (3.9) makes a thuding sound when going over bumps both slowly and fast in the front end. A local mechanic has put it on a lift and could not identify loose suspension components.
I am wondering if anyone can help pinpoint the problem. Reading through the forums, it seems to be somewhat common, and the noise is driving me nuts. I refuse to take it to the Ford Dealer as it is not under warranty. PS: My RH side valve cover leaks also, and I hope to do this myself. |

Re: Front-End Thud
probably the ball joints. I think there is a recall for this. Go to flatratetech.com, message boards, ford consumer products and ask someone to pull an oasis check on your VIN.

mine used to thud, I heard it more over low speed bumps. at first lincoln had no idea what it was, I told them I heard it could be the sway bar bushings from an internet newsgroup, the guy laughed at me and took the keys. 3 days later when I asked him what they replaced guess what he told me... lol you guessed it, sway bar bushings.
they did this same maintenace a few thousand miles later, but I havent heard a thud in a long time so I guess they got the parts sorted. |

I bought the car used from a Ford dealership, and was told the ball joints were checked under the safey recall.
I think I read another post about the sway bar bushings. The mechanic that looked underneath could not pinoint it but thought it may be the stabalizer bar. |
