First off, get out of the driver's seat!

(Check your front wheels for "Manual Locking Hubs" The Center part has a red plastic handle. and an arrow for "Free-Lock". Lock in your hubs.)

Then put the transmission in "N" (Neutral) and move the second "4WD" shifter into "4H" Put the main lever into Drive, or 1st, and off you go! YOU'RE FOUR-WHEELING!

You will notice the 4WD lever also goes into "N" and "4L". Neutral is pretty self-explanatory, 4L is lower gearing for more traction-less speed. (Used in extreme conditions. ie-never.)

Given that your truck in an '86. You have to Unlock the hubs and Reverse the truck to really disengage the locking mechanisms...about 10 ft should do it. (If you don't disengage the hubs, they will wear prematurely.)

Re: 1986 Bronco full size

I just ripped the muffler off. I do it on all mine. I could hear my 85 2.8L through two courses of concrete block!

Actually, I have no idea about pipes, but I'm looking at

Just as a start. I can get them powder-coated, so I won't have to worry about paying the extra for a set that won't rust in 4 years...

From what I can tell, The Broncos have a problem being 4WD. It messes up the geometry in getting the pipes down the Driver's side...
