engine won't turn over
I own a 1996 Grand Prix with approx 123,000 miles. I live in Michigan which much like the rest of the Northeast was just hit with a huge blizzard. I drove through the snow coming home from work before any plows were out. The next day when I went to go to work the engine wouldn't turn over. Not a noise at all. The lights and radio work, so I know the battery is working. I waited until today when it warmed up (approx. 25 degrees) and still nothing. I looked under the hood and there is a lot of snow under there from when I drove home. My intial thought was to pour hot water down there but then I relized it the water could freeze and create more problems. Should I wait a few more days and let the some of the snow melt. If you have any suggestions as to what the problem might be and if I can fix it myself please give me some ideas. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Re: engine won't turn over
Have you checked the starter? Also check your battery because you can still have lights and radio and not have enough cranking amps to turn the engine over. I know from experience.
try to knock the snow out with your hands at least most of it, this could reviel any problems that you might have with disconnected wires and such. |

How old is your battery? May want to check you battery cables.
I was filling my car tonight and the guy next to me had a GTP that wouldn't start. Loose battery cable. |

I din't ask if you were a "cowboy". Rednecks drive 62 Chevy pickups, and drink Faygo "pop".

Re: engine won't turn over
Thanks for the advice. It warmed up yesterday and started fine. I drove it around and let the engine warm up to melt the snow away. After I returned I went ahead and cleaned the battery cables just for good measure. Knock on wood everything seems to be working great for now. Again, Thanks for your advice.
