HELP! Camry or Malibu:

I’m about to purchase my first new car in many years. I’ve driven all the sedans and I’ve narrowed it down to the Toyota Camry or the Chevrolet Malibu. I don’t want to make a bad choice, so I thought the best thing to do would be to ask here because everyone seems to provide good advice. Both cars seem to have everything I’m looking for. Therefore, I just want to get the best car of the two – I’m not that concerned if one of them costs a little more than the other. I need to make a decision soon, so I look forward to hearing everyone’s opinion about these two models. Thank you…

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

If both have what you need, go on either asthetics or reliability. These days domestics are getting pretty damn reliable but i'd still go w/ the Toyota.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

neither car will give you any ounce of excitement lookswise or perforamnce but if i had to choose, i'd go with the camry as well. i agree, domestics are getting much better reliability wise but not quite up to toyota standards yet.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

What trim levels on each one? Although I own a 96 Camry and my dad owns an 02 Camry, I'm inclined to recommend the Malibu. The pricing is excellent (you can get a V6-powered model for about $22,000), the feature content is good, the reliability is solid, and the gas mileage is noticeably better than the Camry V6.

Its been constantly said that GM Ford are engineering new family sedans to try to catch up to the accord/camry in overall quality. My questions is why would you by something trying to chase the camry? by the camry... On the other hand the new Malibu is the closest yet and you will save a few bucks

By the way K-man your almost at 2000 posts...congrats

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

Get a used Malibu. Even if it's a year old, practically new, you'll save like 20-30%. Then the decision will be clear.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

it may not the most exciting comparo all year, but given the choice I'd get the Camry. Yota's are realiable as hell.

get a maxima. get a maxima. get a maxima

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

Camery.....

Malibus are safer though. I was in a bad accident bout a year or so ago got hit on the side by a mini van makin a left. The thing held up great but the camery is more fun to drive.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

What is a Camery Malibu? Which one are you talking about?

Like I said, I realize that the Camry is better, but the Malibu is considerably more affordable on many different levels, and I think that the newer Camrys are boring as hell, especially their styling.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

Both are very solid cars. I would get an 05 model Malibu just to be sure all the kinks are worked out. My dad has an 04 V6 Malibu and has had no problems at all, and this is with 22k+ miles in 8 months. It's not an exciting driver, but it does have more than enough power for everyday driving.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

Well, I have owned a 1988 Camry. I bought it with 225,000 miles on it and it was still going strong.
I currently own a 2000 Malibu with 85,000 on it....I would NOt go across country with it.
From what I m gathering, this really wasn't a great vehicle. No way to compare it to the Camry. Toyota is in a league of there own anyway, but still.

Simply put, BUY THE TOYOTA!!

I'm going to add one more thing.
I have read some of the other replys here. Yes, the Malibu is cheaper. But, you get what you pay for. remember that.

Re: HELP! Camry or Malibu:

Get a Camry. come time to sell, youll be glad you got a Camry because their resale values are good. Stay away from domestic sedans.
