99 cougar alarm light solid red remote locks not working

Normally the alarm light blinks when is armed, when car is off.
The other day the light stay red all the time, when car is running as well as when is power off.
At the same time my automatic locks and remote transmitter don't work
I check the fuse, and is OK
The dealer also reset the alarm, no change
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

We have the exact same problem with our 2000 Cougar. Have you figured out what the deal is yet?
Thanks!

you might want to disconnect the battery and leave it for a few minutes to allow the computer to restart then reconnect it and try again. (worked for me)

Took outs to dealer and the passenger lock control on drivers side was shorting out the locks and alarm. Replaced it for $200 and it all works just fine now. Some briliant engineer put them all on the same fuse too.

Did you find out what the problem was? I took my car to a Ford dealer and after 2 hours of troubleshooting didn't find anything.

you said your car is made my mazda, i dont know about YOUR car but my wifes cougar is a 99, if you open her drivers side door theres a sticker that has a bunch of info on it, at the top of this sticker it says "manufactured by auto alliance international", auto alliance international (AAL) makes both fords and mazdas, they made some ford rangers, i know they've made mazda 6's and mazda 8's, they are even making the new 2005 mustangs, from how i understand it AAL is a much more high tech facility, has alot more "state of the art" equipment, alot more technology, if you really wanna find out alot about it just do a websearch for auto alliance international

Re: 99 cougar alarm light solid red remote locks not working

I had this problem. I replaced the fuse (found in the central fuse box. #25. the only 20 amp yellow one - under the passenger side dash) and it popped. After disconnecting things, I found the fuel cap locking mechanism was at fault. Two screws and it was out. Inside and across the small motor is a suppressor. Mine was short so I cut it out and all is now fine. I hope this helps someone. I was chuffed when I found it and it only cost a few pennies.
