obd1/obd2 interface cable and computer software

I just purchased an older laptop off of one of my buddies the other day. A long time ago, i had found a website that had instructions on how to make an interface cable for both obd1 and for obd2 equipped vehicles that could be used to link the ecm to a laptop via a RS-232 serial cable. I also found another website that had the software. Unfortunatly i had the links to these websites on my old desktop that bit the dust about a year ago. After spending half an hour hopelessly searching google I have been unable to find them again. If anyone knows of the websites or knows how to do this i would really appreciate it if you could tell me. As far as software goes, i am looking for a program that will provide realtime monitoring of the engine as well as display any trouble codes. It is killing me to know this is possible but not have the information on how to do it. thanks!!!
