exhaust problem

hwey guys i have a 1995 e300 diesel , and i have an exhaust problem. on one of the joints from the muffler or the cadiladtic its eatin away. so it came right off. sounds nice tho but i wanted to find out if the joint was part of the muffler it just a seperate peace. do any of your guys no the exhaust system. like i heard that theres 2 mufflers on the car? or what comes first, i have to find out so i no what to change and how much it will be thanks guyss ..
