Cd Player Trouble

I have a Rampage Cd Player that i just installed in my car. Its a 90 Buick Century Wagon. I have an automatci antenna, but it doesnt work, and i didnt connect it to the cd player. Heres my problem. I Installed it, all the wires are connected properly, but when i put a cd in, theres no noise at all. It was cold when i did it. But after i did that, i put it on radio and heard sound, but no music or voises or anything. It was just radio static. I tried to put a cd in again, but it didnt even take the cd in. I have no idea what is wring. It may be because its cold, but thats weird if my friends cd player works after being in the freezing cold for several hours. I was in a heated garage and it was somewhat cold. all the speakers are wires correctly. One thing to note is that when the original radio was in there, the speakers had a mind of their own. they would either work or screw up. the front speakers worked ok, the rear speakers would alternate from working to not working, and when i changed the fade to the back, they both worked fully, but when i turned it back to the front, they would fade out and the one would stop working and just crackle. Help please?

If it's the same speakers you may want to reconnect them with new wire... other than that I don't know, sorry.

thanks alot. I asked someone else and they said the same thing. thats what i am going to do, and he suggested that i just wire the wires directly to the stereo rather than through the universal connectors

What are these universal connectors?

they are the plug ins. you wire the original wires into wires that come with the stereo kit, and then you can plug them into the stereo

Oh yeah, mine has that too. Why would that be the problem... wouldn't that just make it easier to remove the stereo in the future if you had to?
Also how could you hook up wires directly to the stereo without using the plug...

cut the plug off, solder the speaker wires to the stereo wires.

Oh yeah... why didn't I think of that. Maybe the universal connector has a bad connection or something. The only thing is you can't remove the stereo as easily then. If you do solder the wires to the stereo wires directly, allow some extra wire so that when you do have to take out your stereo in the future, there's enough slack in the wire to put the stereo down somewhere... Otherwise you'll either have to hold it, or have it hanging.

Dang, I was extremely glad I had an adapter plug that would let me use the stock connector in my accord... there was absolutely NO slack in that wire, and it only came like 4 inches from the back of the cavity. I can't imagine the torture of trying to solder 12 little wires in a 3" wide space. As it was the antena wire was almost too short for me to get it all the way into the receiver.

Good luck with those wires! Be happy you have a semi-heated garage! I installed 2 speakers and my receiver outside in 15 degree snowing weather. I'm waiting for warmer weather before I attempt the door speakers and the amp/sub setup.

haha trust me i feel your pain man. last night i installed my new amp and a couple old subs just to make sure everything was working well before i put my new sub in (no box til tomorrow)

anyways i live in ohio and it was about 5 degrees and dark here while i was doin that. it took like 4 hours too just cause i didnt have the right tools. i was completely frozen (not to mention bleeding) by the time i got inside.

well i kinda figured out the problem, the constant 12v wire had only two little "wirelets". Luckily Audiovox isnt chauncy when it comes to wires, as there is enough wire to have the stereo on the arm rest in the center of the front seats.(exxageration, but comes close) i had to rip the wire off because the radio was making a weird buzzing noise and draining the car battery. So now i have to pull the dashplate off and pull out the universal adapter, and strip that 12v wire again. If it is only two little shitty wires again, im going to have to put a new wire to the battery, and im going to go with a larger gage wire. Im buying a rockford fosgate 600w amp for my kenwood 600w 12"sub. i was told to go with a 6 gage wire from my stereo to the amp. now, my stereo came with a universal auxiliary plug, how would i wire the 6 gage into two plugs? (red and white) well good luck with all your intalls. Im gonig to wait untill late spring or so to do this crap. ill put a mini boom box in my car for the time being.
