4wd problems
In 2wd my jeep is fine but when I put it 4wd on snow it is ok but once I hit pavement like where there are spots w/o snow on the road the jeep kinda pulls, it seems pretty random, but, I am all over the road... It it normal?
I have no idea where to start it is a 95, 158K, 4.0 I-6, command trac 4wd

Re: 4wd problems
Unless you have a blue or green light on the dash that says "Full Time" you can not drive on any pavement. You must stay on slippery stuff like mud gravel, and snow.
Check the sticker on the back of the drivers sun visor. |

Re: 4wd problems
ya, I know. I don;t have full time. The garage told me that the bearings are lose needing replacement and are binding up the U-joints which also need to be replaced... This dosn't make n e sense to me... a respected mechanic who is friends of my parents said he never heard of such a thing... has n e one else??

Yes, even wet pavement is not slippery enough to use "Part Time" In Part time the front wheels are driven as a pair, and so are the rears. If there is any tiny diference in their speed due to tire size or air pressure in tires, or making even a gentle turn, the wheel will start to fight each other. Since each tire has good traction, the fighting will cause the vehicle to buck and turn randomly left and right all by itself. Even at 1 mile per hour, this is scary, and you might brake something. I suspect that there is nothing wrong with your Jeep Enjoy |

I disagree. I use my 4 wheel drive on wet pavement all the time for the extra traction because i will slide out very easily. The Jeep manual says dont use it on dry pavement, but its OK on wet pavement and gravel and snow. Since I use it all the time, I can tell you that something is wrong because my jeep drives fine on wet pavement in 4 wheel drive. no pulling. If the tires air pressure was low on one side, it would pull even in 2WD. I would get it checked. |

By the way. Just knowing that the tires might be fighting each other implies that they are not working together to get me the best traction, and that is what "Full Time" and "AWD" like in a Grand Cherokee is all about. |

Re: 4wd problems
now that I think of it, my mom had a 94 grand chrokee and it didn't do what mine does... I know for a fact though that my front bearing are shot, I can hear them grind. I just don't have the money to have them replaced n e time soon
