man, I totally thrashed my car tonight...

...twas a good night though.

started at an event thing. Not many [cool] people were there, and no girls. So after some calling and the arrival of some attractive females, we went doorbell ditching. Me and my friends were in the lexus, and another kid (who we don't really like) was driving seperate by himself. Lets just say that although we did manage to lose him, LS400's are by no means built for pursuit driving of any kind. I think I put about 4 years of wear on it in about 10 minutes. It also might be the placebo effect, but I think I'm needing to look at the rear pads again. Anyways, we actually ended up leaving one of the people who had been riding with me behind in our haste (we were being chased by an angry man who was now in his car) and peeled out leaving the development. Down to thriftway, bought some toilet paper for TPing. Sprinted out of thriftway with most of the team, (this is the part where we were trying to lose the not so enjoyable kid driving by himself) and dove into the lexus. Hit 60 once I got out of the parking lot and near-ABS braked to make the first turn into a neighborhood. (Oh how I miss the BMW, this thing handles like a freaking cruise ship and the brakes suck) swung around a few corners, threw it into park, and turned the lights off. When we saw him drive by still on the main road, we got back in the car and took off to find a victim to TP. As it turned out, we were already in another friend of mine's neighborhood, so we TPed him. We then got back in the car, and drove back to where the night started. But... remember the kid we left behind when we were doorbell ditching? I guess he had called his dad. Because as soon as we pulled in the parking lot, saw him, and left, he started following us. We lost him alot easier. Long story short, I ended up dropping everybody in my car off by the top of the parking lot and sped off to my house before anyone else saw me. I then parked my car in the garage for fear of someone recognizing it

yes. Twas a good night.

PS someone please reassure me that all cars are built to take at least a little teen abuse...

Dude, it's not like you where nuetral dropping man. I know what you mean about "handling like a cruiseship"....LOL, i got a 3800lb 4.6 tbird my friend.

Seriously though, driving hard like that wont do to much damage...just change your oil sonner..and check your differential fluid to make sure it aint BURNT up and thin..just like tranny fluid.. That LS400 is RWD..right..? Under stress, rwd will last longer then front wheel, mainly due to the fact that the front wheels do EVERYTHING.

Some more than others, especially Renault 19's and Yugo 45's, as I found out back in my teen days.....

Don't worry about damaging your car. It's an automatic. If you leave it in drive, it will pretty much never go past redline, so just make sure that your fluids are ok. As for brakes, get them from autozone, free lifetime warranty. As long as you own the car, bring in the old ones with the receipt, and they'll give you new ones.

Good story ec - tho aren't you a little old to do dorrbell ditching? Don't worry about your lexus breaking down - it's basically a Toyota anyway - and even IF it breaks down - then you can get a used BMW 328 (or something like it) eh?

If you want a cruise ship that handles like a speed boat, sell the lexus, get a used BMW 7, 5; mercedes E, S, CL, or a lexus GS. But all have to have sport packages of some kind.

its not that I wanted to drive this car, rather, this is kind of the car I ended up in. Its buying me some time to look for a bmw. I'm looking for a 1992ish bmw 535/540i or an 89-91 e30 325i/is 5 speed, or a late 80's e24 535is or m535is. Then I can truly practice some evasive driving techniques.

Yes, i'm 17. Is there something better we should be doing with our time?

About the car, I drove the BMW like that every single day. I would redline it with WOT on nearly every shift (it was a 5 speed). Apexing traffic circles was a near daily occurance. One time I accidentally drifted through an intersection at the end of an offramp at 50 mph. The reason I wasn't worried about it was because it was meant to be driven as so; it really connected you to the road. The whole car reassured the driver's every move. The lexus, however, is built for exactly the opposite of that. It is built to as much as possible totally and completely isolate the driver from the road. The steering is feather light and the springs are so soft they'd be better fit to a mattress. It's also much bigger and harder to control in situations that call for 'spirited' driving. That's why I don't like driving it like that.

Ironically, it's also a helluva lot faster. My BMW was (I think) the second slowest one sold in the US since 1983.
