I have a '99 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4 engine. I can't start my car and some of my friends told me that is the starter, and that I need to hit the starter to get it unlocked! The problem is that I don't know where the starter is located. I looked everywhere and can't see it!
Can anybody tell me please where exactly is located and how can I get to it? The reason the starter went out is that my car woudn't start this morning and I cranked the engine for more then 30 minutes on a row. I even used jump cables linked to my other car and, at the end, I heard a wheeeeeee noise and nothing would turn anymore.I tried it again after a few hours and the same thing: wheeeeeeee, and nothing. Oh, I also remember that It smells like something burn( like burned wires). I also have an exaust leak, the water is coming out of my car.I can't seem to know exactly from where is leaking.I washed the engine recently and I suspect that the water entered at the sparkplugs, and maybe the wires. Because right after washing it, it started very hard, that's the reason I insisted to start it this morning, thinking it will start. I am really unhappy. Can someone help me? |

It doesn't sound like there's much chance that hitting your starter will help you at this point, and even if it did, it would be a temporary fix. You would still have to replace the starter if that's the problem. At this point, it sounds more like your problem is that you fried the starter solenoid with all the attempts at starting. Why it wouldn't start is likely to be another problem, possibly a fuel pump or fuel pump relay, or any number of other possibilities.
As for your exhaust leak - where is the water coming out? Are you saying that when your car is running, there is water coming out of the exhaust pipe? If water is dripping out of the exhaust pipe with the car running, this is normal. When a car engine is operating efficiently, the only remaining product of complete combustion, is H2-O (water). If the water leak is coming from the front near the engine, you may have a problem. My suggestion to you is to take the car to a reputable shop or dealer and let them help you get your car on the road again. |
