What Do You Think?

Hey guys. I guess this is a question that everyone faces at sometime in their life. What do I want to do with my life. Right now i am faced with decision of what to major in at college. I was a student at UIC in the mechanical engineering major but I didn't like the program so I withdrew from the university. I applied Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and was accepted into their finance major. But now I am thinking about going to school for mechanical engineering again. I love cars and studying how everything works on them and it is a dream of mine to get into the auto business as an engineer. But I am also god with business. I like business. I know i can a lot of money in business because i would like to be an investment banker. But i think i can make a pretty good living in engineering. Also the school i got into for business is 6 hours from home so i'd have to stay on campus, which is a plus. But if I do engineering I can stay in chicago and live at home, keep my job and buy a car. Do you see my dilema? I was wondering what you guys think I should do. I am having a hard time deciding and really would like some feedback.

I wouldn't like being an investment banker. And with the circumstances that they are I would say mechanical engineering is the better choice. That’s just me though.

given the circumstances i guess mechanical engineering would seem to be the better choice. Its just that Southern Illinois University is the university i had really wanted to go to and got in during my senior year of high school. But my parents talked me out of going there and i went to UIC instead and ended up hating it. Now I got into Southern Illinois University again and don't want to pass up this opportunity again. Decisions, Decisions. Oh well, maybe i can switch my major from finance to mechanical engineering at Southern Illinois University. But then i wouldn't be able to keep my car and job.

Its hard to say which profession will lead me to more money. Because i could go to school for business but after college i might not ever get the chance to make the big bucks. If i go into engineering and become a good engineer i could make a lot of money. It can go either way with the money. But you have to remember it everything can't be about money. You could make a lot of money but if you don't like what you do than why do it. I want to make sure I choose the one i like most not based on money but on which career would be most satisfying. And i feel that i would find both careers satisfying. Its a very tough decision. I just want to make sure that i make the right one because this decision is going to have a huge effect on my future.

I believe in working in a job that I enjoy, not for the money. Hell, I wouldn't be a teacher if that was the case I'd say go with your heart, not with your calculator

yeah i believe that everything can't be about money, but i really would like to get into a profession that would lead me to the purchase of a ferrari. I know that if I got into business I would be able to make a lot of money. But i'm not to sure about engineering, i know i could make a decent living but i don't think I would be able to buy a ferrari. So I am still stuck between the two.
