any experts on TVs?

Man who knew TV shopping could be so complicated. HDTV's are pretty simple, but regular TVs are confusing. Each company has their own picture clearing technology, and it's hard to know which is the best one. I have never ever had a TV in my room. My cousin laughed b/c he was like "I thought that would be the first thing you get when you started working." Well my money went into my car instead for the last 3 years. Anyways I'm caught between these 3 choices at best buy:

Option 1: JVC TV

Option 2: Panasonic

Option 3: Philips

For my budget the TV has to be under $400 or can be a lil more if it is really worth it. I'm tryin to get 27-30 inch, my room isn't that big. And it has to be flat screen, there's a lot of sunlight in my room and I don't want my glare that'd fuck up my eyes. So which TV here is the best or if those suck, can you recommend one? The JVC one looks good b/c it has 750 lines of res over the panasonic's 700 while the philips doesn't have anything listed, but panasonic has the most options and technology while philips is the cheapest. So I'm caught between these 3 choices, but recommend me some if there are better deals/TVs out there.

EDIT: I heard best buy is a ripoff for buying TVs, anyone else know a better cheaper place to buy TVs?

DOUBLE EDIT: And no Sonys, I think Sony's quality has gone down a lot. I have a Sony TV from the 70s that still works. Then we bought a lot of sony stuff in the past 5 years, all of them has had problems. Another 32 inch TV that fried and we had to repair, stereos where the CD player doesn't work. I think Sony blows now

I bought a 28inch Panasonic widescreen last year and it's perfect, great picture quality and sound (Dolby digital). Out of those three brands i would go for either JVC or Panasonic, Philips' strength is in LCD.

However if your budget is $400 i would go for a widescreen. There's a nice 26" widescreen Philips on that site for $399... Worth the premium imo

Go to a shop that sells all of them and have a look at the TV's themselves.

NB: We have a Sony that we bought when we got here and never had any problems

How long have you had that Sony for? I heard Sony does have the best picture quality out of all the other brands. And once I get my paychecks I am going to go take a look at TVs. I would get a wide screen but they are pretty pricey, and my room is small.

noted, I have my own dolby 5.1 surround sound so I don't need great sound quality. I got it from a $300 gift card as a christmas bonus from work

never been a fan of JVC's and as far as the phillips and panasonic It would be a judgement call with phillips winning out in my eyes.

I've had a philips for about 4 years with no problems and its been moved alot from apartment to apartmet etc.. I like it so much I just went and bought the same tv only bigger for my parents as their christmas present.

I bought a 27" Apex Flat Screen (not lcd) from Sams Club for $225 about 9 months ago. No complaints.

We bought a 27" phillips 5 years ago,and haven't had a problem. We bought a GE 27" about 2 years ago for my mother and it just died for the third time in just over 8 months.The total repair bill the last 2 times for this tv was close to $200, so this time I told her for the price it would be cheaper to buy a new one since prices have come down so much in the past few years. We ended up buying a 32" Sylvania at Sams Club for $247. I have talked to other people who own Philips tv's and are satisfied with them. A site that I have utilized in the past on the internet for different products might also help in your decision making It is called Epinions.com This site has reviews on various products posted by people who have recently bought or own the item.

They work for me and look like better options than the ones you posted up. Wide is the way forward

I've always liked Panasonic TV's (and currently posses a 42 Inch Plasma one), of course, my TV is well beyond $400, but if you're after a top-notch TV, the Panasonic route is a good one to take, Sonys are also good and offer quite possibly a wider range.

I say either Toshiba or Zenith. We have 2 Toshiba tv's at my place, 52" that was bought like 5 years ago and works great and the newly added 46" widescreen HD-reaer-projection tv.
