the srt-4 is a great car for the price.....but....
i owned one for about a month and had so many problems with it i returned it to the dealer( mainly a horrible miss and the boost kept cutting out)
in defense of the srt-4 the dealership did fill the tank with cheap 87 octane gas when i purchased it and i believe that probably caused the problem.
i have two friends with srt4's one has had no problems what so ever and the other guy had the ac compressor replaced after only 4000 miles.

i think the most important thing if your buying a new srt4 is a very good break in period without abusing it and you shouldnt have any problems/

also about the insurance i never owned a regular neon but when i bought my srt the insurance was CHEAPER than my 97 integra.

another huge advantage in my opinion is dodge seems to be very understanding when it comes to warranty repairs on a modded str-4

hope this helps

Re: considerin an srt-4

58,000 miles on my car with no real problems. i had a couple of issues, but anyone does with the first batch of cars made! i would buy another one in a heartbeat. tons of power, and i get 27 miles to the gallon on the freeway! my insurance isnt too much either! its worth checking it out!

Theres two downfalls. It's FWD, and it's a dodge neon. Other than that it's a hell of a car that I myself wouldn't mind owning.

The car is a lot for the money but keep in mind like others have said, it's still a rental Neon dressed up with a some better mechanical hardware. It's still the same crappy interior with no power rear windows, really cheap plastics and cramped headroom (in models with moonroof)

I had the a 02' R/T and while it was fun the damn car needed an extended stay everytime I had the oil changed to fix nagging quality issues...Just a taste :

Leaking seal on manual transmission case, from day one. Replaced seal twice before getting it right, Dodge doesnt pay for loaner. (car was less than year old, driven responsibly)

Seat cushion in drivers seat had side bolsters slipping under frame of seat leaving uncomfy lumps on your ass

rattles up the ying yang

fog lights on both sides replaced due to excessive condensation inside units

and other crap...I got rid of it after 3 years recently. I am happy with my truck I got.

Re: considerin an srt-4

funny you say that. i have not had any real problems with mine. everything is solid like a rock - unless i broke it, but thats a different story - even after 60,000 hard miles! i thrash the poor girl more than i should! its a great car and a blast to drive.

just resist temptation and properly break it in before you drive it hard. treat it well and it will treat you well in return

Re: considerin an srt-4

one thing a pal told me (quoted below): replace the spark plugs!
******************
The
only problem that I KNOW of is that the spark plugs
in the car are not up to the job. They are Champions,
and because of the high boost, they can misfire due to
what we call insulator puncturing. However, NGK does
make spark plugs you can buy as aftermarket. This is a
definete "to do" if you buy one, and a good insurance
against premature engine destruction.
