One of my friends bought some crappy lights at discount auto parts and he paid like 20 bucks for each bulb.. plus he had to wire it and get the wire covers and rocker switch.. plus drilling to mount it so he was out round 50 bucks. It looked good but I was sure I could do it cheaper.
Along with being cheaper I wanted something that I could use to get the same effect as him as well as leaving room for adding on if I ever decided to get more lights.
You can get a remote halogen head light kit at discount auto parts for 20 bucks. It's made by APC so if that turns anyone off I found others online for about the same price. You also need wire covers of course because your running lines in your engine area and even under your dash it just looks nice to have the wires covered. Last heres where I cut a bunch of money out, use cold cathodes instead of neons. They are basically just as bright with the bonus effect of using +/-3.7 watts.
Neons at discount are $20 and up starting at the 12" tubes.
Cold Cathodes for a set of two with transformer are $10.
$5 < $40.
So with some help of my brother running the wire throught the fire wall and mounting the transformer behind my radio I spent $30 dollars to get the same effect as what $50 can get you. Did I mention cold cathodes dont have the huge glass containers around them and they are semi flexible so if your stupid friends ever kicked one of them under your dash it probably wont break.. plus if it did its 5 dollars to replace.
