fuel filter

is it nessesary to relieve fuel system pressure before removing the old fuel filter. What could happen if i did not relieve the fule pressure?

if it is nessesary what where would i find the spot to relieve the pressure

Yes you have to relieve the pressure. if you don't you will have gas sprayed in your face at 60psi.

1. relieve pressure in the tank, remove the gas cap.

2. relieve pressure in the lines, on top the engine there is a valve in the fuel rail right in front of the distributor cap it looks like a tire valve with a little black cap on it. there are two ways to relieve the pressure in the lines:

a. (recommended) use a pressure gauge with a bleeder hose, put the gauge on the schrader valve put the hose in a can and then open the bleeder valve on the gauge.

b. pull the cap off the schrader valve put lots of towels around it and press the valve with a screwdriver make sure you cover it with a towel to keep it from spraying up in your face or making a mess.

Or you can just slowly back the screw in fitting on the filter until it starts to drip out and put a cup under it and wait for 5-10 minutes as the pressure relieves itself.
