Would you recommend putting in an electric fan in place of the belt driven fan?

Hello, (97 Rodeo 3.2L w/AC)
In an effort to increase fuel mileage and replace a noisy fan clutch I'd consider installing an electric fan and heave out the fan clutch assembly.
My question to you is - have you seen it done successfully?, and if so what is a good size (CFM) fan to use and what is the best way to get it to run linked to engine temperature? Any downside? My winter mileage is horrible cause the clutch is not happy when cold. Looks like there's room around the fan shroud to do a swap. Your advice is appreciated.

I'd use one if their was a proven, direct bolt up kit available. You'd probably gain a few ponies & eliminate any clutch fan *roar*. IMHO, fuel mileage increase would be nominal. Most come with a thermostat kit that mounts to the radiator itself to turn the fan on/off when needed. One thing to keep in mind is, electric radiator fans are a SERIOUS electrical load. Those babies draw alot of amps, which as we know, drives 1993+ rodeos nuts!!

This is good advice. I'd probably be exchanging one problem for another? I think my charging system is on the hairy edge of being capable to meet the normal load. Wasn't thinking about the extra load of an electric fan. All these posts about the dashboard lighting up like a Christmas tree when the volts slips below 14 - I can see it coming. The last clutch fan I bought has lasted one year - thanks to road salt. It was an aftermarket one, and wasn't cheap but the OEM one was scary expensive. Not looking forward to throwing money at it again, but the noise and drag is getting annoying. Hmm, gotta think about this. Any other ideas?
