Removing ignition key problem

Been having a problem recently with the '92 Integra in that most of the time I cannot get the ignition key out. Key goes in fine, car runs fine, goes into Park and turns off OK, but it often takes 10-15 times of trying to get the key to turn to the last position so it can be removed. Does this with different keys which were made at different times. It does finally come out, but it takes a lot of tries. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Removing ignition key problem

I was just out looking at it and I think I know where the problem is - the shift lever indicator.

When the lever is in Park and the "P" light indicator on the dash is NOT lit, then the key will not come out. If the "P" light is on, then they key comes out on the first try. A little wiggle on the shift lever will change the indicator.

Without a garage, the real fix may wait until the spring thaw, but now I know what's going on it's not a big deal.
