Question 4x4 lights stuck on

I have an 88'ford bronco xlt 5.0.w/auto button push 4x4. the story starts when my front wheels were not engaging so took the cap off them and put a little WD-40 in their to try and loosing them up so I push the 4x4 button to engage then again to disengage also going 10-20' back and forth trying to work it in. Well NG the 4x4 light got stuck on. now like an idiot I press the low range button and now that’s stuck on and once I put it in N it went in. last night at work a buddy put me on the phone w/a friend of his who used to work for ford and spelling out what happen he told me to switch to manual hubs before anything and that could be my problem cause if they got jammed by me trying engage them it could of backed up the system not allowing it to disengages. So I did them today before the snow came. well I fixed the front wheels now engage but both light are still on and both stuck on so I went under their again w/a hammer and started taping w/the wheel to the left foot on brake and in neutral well the low range light turned off but did not dis-engage pressed it again and it came back on then for some weird reason my brother hits the windshield wipers and they both (lights) turn off, but did not dis-engage so i pushed the 4x4 button and went in reverse and that did not work. Anybody with any suggestions would help and I now get rid of the auto but it’s what I have I don’t have a lot of money so I just want to try and fix it.

I don't know anything about the Electronic Transfer Case, but if it's similar to a manual, look at the back of the case...There may be a 1/2" square nut back there that can manually engage/disengage the TC. It should be labelled 2H - 4H - 4L and have a directional arrow to tell you which way to turn it. use a Socket Extension to fill the nut, then have at it. (In N - of course!)

Thumbs up Re: 4x4 lights stuck on

thankyou i jaked all 4 wheels up took off the motor and i could turn the nob to 2h w/ my hand.the motor is completely sized w/the car in N i can feel the motor surgeing and taulking.i was banging it and mashing it into the xfercase but it did not work.i put manual hubs in it already, now i have to change that motor it looks easyw/ the wire plug but theirs 3 wires going into the xfercase.do i cut them and replice them.
i live in long island yesterday we got just under 20' of snow so i drove it out from where i was parked to clean up (i did the hubs prior to that)so it was still in low range 4wheel. drove it up the block and there was banging and clicking undereneth. i dont now if i have another problem or from the day before fron taping the motor to get it out from 4L i put it inbetween gears.for now ill leave it i have to get to work ill play w/ it ether next weekend or when the snow melts.

Re: 4x4 lights stuck on

That takes me back to when my 5.8 tore out my 4x4. (Sorry I didn't bring it up sooner, but I was trying to forget!!!)

Are you talking about the connector that goes into the front of the TC? (Just after the transmission?) Mine has 2 leads. I guess you could just get an old (2 wire) and replace the fitting...?

Which TC does your truck use? Mine have 13-56 Borg/Warners...Maybe you have a 205 N.ew P.rocess?

Re: 4x4 lights stuck on

the TC says borg warner automotive and on the back of it. theres 3 wires going into it, a blue & green that are atached to a black plug that i have know ideal how disconnect, and red thicker wire going right next to them also no ideal how to detach.i called a local junk yard for the motor they wanted $100. used & in stock new $185.they told me guys cut and splice them or theirs a tool to go in and diconnect them.so right now i changed it manuly be crawling under the truck.the junk yard told me i cant put in a manual shifter cause of the auto tran the driveshaft is in the way unless i change the TC.
