Question door Handle

Hey again, i have the 96 s-10, and the darnest thing happend two days ago.. while getting out of the truck, i pulled the handle and the handle snapped off in my hand... so i got a new handle but in order to store it i need to take apart the door. my question is how door i take apart the door? any help would help, unless it doesn't help... thanks!

Re: door Handle

This might now help, but you should look in a shop type manual. there are just too many possible parts in a small space, that you can't really see.

Your local library probably has the manual, but it's always a good thing to own.

Once you see how it all works it's a pretty easy job, although you'll have to drill out some rivits (and probably replace them with skinny nuts and bolts) probably 2 - 3 hours, allowing for some stress brakes... 1 hour if you've done it before.

Re: door Handle

First start off by removeing the two 7mm screws under the armrest. Now take out the philips head screw behind the door handle, then pull foward and out and it will pop off,you will have to turn it to get it over the handle(a 96 might be a little different). Then take off your switch cluster by pulling up on the front of the trim piece.Disconnect plugs.Start at the bottom of the door panel and pull out,a trim tool makes it easier. As you get to the top of the door panel, pull upward. The door panel will pop off.Pull your plastic out of the way so you can see your handle and so you can see the rear window track.Take the rear window track out by removing the two 10mm bolts.Pull track down(take note of the clip on top of the track and where it goes). Now take out the two 10mm bolts that hold the handle in and disconnect the rods(have fun with these). You have to turn the plastic clip and pull out to release the rods.
